In the opening screen of Liberator, Commander Champion of the Atari Force asks you to help free the galaxy from the evil Malaglon Army. Assuming you accept Commander Champion's mission, your goal is to use destroy enemy bases on a rotating planet while making sure not to lose your lasers to enemy fire.

Use your track-ball to direct a crosshair around the screen and to control four lasers, each on a corner of your screen. The fire button fires a missile at the crosshair's location from the closest laser. The shield button activates a temporary shield to protect your lasers. The shield button is used to activate force fields around the ships, but it can only take four hits each round.
